Sacramento Info Network
Welcome to Sacramento!
Founded in 1839 - just a few years prior to the California Gold Rush - Sacramento quickly became the center for commerce and culture in 19th-century Northern California. It anchored migrants heading west and served as the terminating point for the famous First Transcontinental Railroad. Today, Sacramento serves as the state capital of California and boasts a metro area population of more than 2 million people. Unlike other California cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco, which can be crippled by traffic and urban congestion, Sacramento offers a very comfortable environment. The city has been designated as one of the country's "most livable places," and it has also earned a reputation for peaceful ethnic integration. Sacramento is the epicenter of state government. You can visit the California State Capitol building (styled after the Capitol in Washington D.C.) to get an up close and personal view of how the world's sixth-largest economy is governed. You may even be able to catch a glimpse of the "Governator" himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Alternatively, if you want to dial back to the city's cultural beginnings, take a walk around old Sacramento and visit places like the Eagle Theatre and the Big Four Building.
This site is a new one-stop information depot for all things Sacramento.
